Nevada Blogger Predictions

You know my stance, I won’t make predictions in races where I care who wins. So, I will make predictions for tomorrow’s Republican caucus in Nevada, and for the South Carolina primary. But I won’t jinx Barack by attempting to predict what happens for the Democrats.

Nevada – Republicans

Romney – 25
McCain – 20
Paul – 18

South Carolina – Republicans

Huckabee – 30
McCain – 27
Thompson – 15
Romney – 12

Thus, my theory of right-wing chaos takes one more step to coming true. Well, what would be even better is if Ron Paul can pull it off in Nevada, and Grandpa Fred can become the comeback geriatric and win South Carolina. I know, I’m wishing for too much.

Race, America, and my hopes for 2008

I really caught me by surprise, the extent as to how race and gender have exploded on the national stage since Barack Obama’s victory in Iowa. I’m not talking about the back and forth accusations between the campaigns, but the deeper discussion of what is means to be black, brown, yellow, or red in 2008. Even though it was almost a foregone conclusion that the race for the Democratic nomination would be between a white female and an African American male, like many things, it never sunk in till it happened.

Now, its happened. Barack Obama won the Iowa caucuses. Hillary Clinton won the New Hampshire primary.

Gut Instincts: Obama's Going Up!

So far, amidst all the polls, all the predictions, pundits, and idiocracy, there has been one thing that has led me in the right direction, one things that has been pretty accurate in who’s doing well and who’s not.

My good old, trustworthy gut.

Back in the fall, my guys wasn’t feeling to great. Barack Obama was gaining no traction in Iowa. We were holding rallies, organizing canvasses, but turnout was mediocre. Had we peaked already? In October, at a Saturday Canvass kick-off rally in Des Moines, only 100 people showed up on the dreary but warn day. A few days later, the five year anniversary speech of Barack’s first standing against the war took place in a half filled room, and received no media coverage. Inevitable looked, well, inevitable.

State of the Primary, 1/14/08

Racial Rhetoric is taking front stage in the battle between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Whether its surrogates opening their mouths too much, or a coordinated campaign is yet to be seen. Obama won Iowa and finished a close second in New Hampshire, two predominantly white states. Now, we’re off to Nevada, a diverse state with a large latino population, and South Carolina, where 50% of the electorate is African American.

On the other side, its all about Michigan. Kos and a few other prominent bloggers have started the “Democrats for Mitt.” Since Democrats have no one to vote for in Michigan (except Hillary) the idea is to get Democrats to crossover and “save” the Romney campaign, breathing life and helping further throw the GOP race in chaos. Sounds good to me, does that mean next, we aim for a Fred Thompson comeback in South Carolina?

On our side, its off to Nevada. New polls show a close race, but how reliable are polls these days? Exactly.

And a shout out to Chargers fans everywhere…bring on the Patriots!

GE Polls: A Huge Waste of Time

I’m really sick of all the diaries posting prospective GE polls numbers, no matter who they are supporting. Obama leads everyone in Zogby, woop-dee-do! Edwards leads in Rassmussen, oh my lord! Clinton leads in ARG? Yowsie!

So to shut you up, here are some of the worst disasters of General Election polling from the last 24 years of Presidential elections. After last weeks debacle in New Hampshire, can we just argue on the issues and the REASONS why we believe our candidate is electable, not the unreliable numbers?

More below the fold.

Coca Travel Coming Soon!

Fresh from my round the world trip blog, I’ve been working on some articles for a new, hip, budget/cultural travel website. Today, I installed Joomla CMS on the back end and am proud to announce that, within a month, I will be launching a brand new, travel blog.

NithinCoca.com will remain, and become more focused, as a political blog. With the 2008 race heating up, I don’t plan on being left behind. I’m still trying to find my niche, and my growing emphasis on rhetoric will probably end up being the focus, as the television ad wars heat up this fall.

The travel site (tentatively named Coca Travel, at least until Coca-Cola sues me) will also explore politics but in the same fashion that World Trippers did. I won’t be promoting and candidates there, not talking about elections, but about the broader political issues facing this world, such as Censorship, Free Elections, Human Rights, and more.

Anyway, hope you are having a good Saturday. I’ll be watching the NFL tonight (Go Jaguars!) and tomorrow (Go Chargers!).

Obama and the Youth Vote

Poll after poll has shown it. Barack Obama is winning the youth vote, and winning it decisively. Iowa answered the question whether this enthusiasm would reflect at the polls, against the wishes of many pundits who ignore data that conclusively shows youth voter turnout ROSE in 2004 and 2006. The same held true in New Hampshire.

So, why Obama? Here are my non-scientific answers.
