It’s a free stopover, essentially. I found it was about $100 less to fly from California to Asia versus New York. And flights to San Diego were running about $120. So, why not make a stop? (aspiring travelers – note that this is how you travel cheaply).

Secondly – it had been years since my family had taken a trip to San Diego. This is where it all began, back in 1983, at Sharp Medical Center just off the 805. My dad moved here back the 1970’s, and we stayed here until I was six, leaving for Kansas City in 1991. San Diego was a very different place back then, but it was amazing how many things actually were the same. The home my father moved into when he first came to the US. The hospital I was born at. Our first house, and my first school. New chains have moved in, but the city remains the same.

Next stop – Korea!
